A number of US presidents, such as James Monroe and Harry Truman, have loaned their names to specific foreign policy approaches. Some on the political left believe that President Barack Obama is insufficiently focused on human rights; some on the right criticize him as an apologist who is hastening America’s decline. As we approach the 2 year milestone in Barack Obama's presidency, can we identify a distinctive Obama Doctrine - a vision that animates his administration's strategic outlook in the world? If so, from where does it originate, and can it succeed?
To address this topic, the Graduate Political Science Society is pleased to present Peter Beinart, a leading US analyst and author of The Good Fight and The Icarus Syndrome. The PIA's own Dr. Colin Dueck will introduce the lecture.
Peter Beinart, is an Associate Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York, Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation, Senior Editor for The Daily Beast, and a contributor to Time. Beinart is also a former Senior Fellow at the Council for Foreign Relations.
Hosted by Graduate Political Science Society (GPSS).
