Kerri Buschbacher serves as a foreign affairs officer at the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO). At CSO, Kerri focuses on countering violent extremism (CVE) analysis, planning, programs, and learning. In this role she manages a multi-country research program that develops indicators for monitoring violent extremism trends, supports the bureau’s CVE initiatives in East Africa, and trains bureau staff on CVE research and analysis. She has also conducted field research to assess violent extremism dynamics and intervention options. 

Kerri previously worked in the Department’s Global Engagement Center, where she developed partnerships to counter terrorist messaging in Southeast Asia. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2013 and served as an English Teaching Assistant to Malaysia, where she taught English and facilitated cultural exchange activities with youth ages 8-17.  While at Mason, Kerri was an intern in the Secretary’s Office of the Global Health Initiative and the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization at the Department of State, and at the Northern Virginia Mediation Service in Fairfax, Virginia.
