Graduation Activities for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Congratulations, Class of 2019!
George Mason University holds its University Commencement on Friday, May 17, 2019, at 10:00 am, in EagleBank Arena. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences holds two degree celebration ceremonies for our graduating students later that day:

  • A celebration for students receiving degrees in the humanities or interdisciplinary programs
  • A celebration for students receiving degrees in the social sciences

Both ceremonies also take place in the EagleBank Arena. No tickets are required.

During the college's degree celebrations, the names of graduating students are read as they cross the stage. Students are congratulated by the dean and department chair and have their pictures taken by a professional photographer.

Our distinguished alumni speakers for degree celebrations will be Dr. Alexandra Sims and Ms. Liana Montecinos. Ms. Montecinos will speak Friday, May 17 at 3:00 pm to the Humanities and Interdisciplinary Programs Degree Celebration. Dr. Sims will address the Social Sciences Degree Celebration on Friday, May 17 at 7:30 pm.
