What was the most impactful class you took in your major?

The most impactful class I took in my major was Spanish-English Translation with Professor Jacqueline Serigos. I learned the fundamentals of translation versus interpretation and had hands-on experience translating in a professional sense, something I had always been interested in. I learned new techniques to better communicate between different languages and found a new appreciation for this field. Professor Serigos was so dedicated to her work and made a welcoming environment, making this one of the classes I most looked forward to attending.

What activities were you involved in during your time at Mason that impacted you?

At Mason, I have been very involved in the Catholic Campus Ministry, which has completely changed my life. Catholic Patriots has provided me opportunities to grow in my relationship with God, through daily Mass, weekly events, and retreats. I got involved in a Bible Study three years ago and have formed life-giving friendships. Now, I lead a Bible Study and have grown tremendously in my faith, leadership, and in fellowship. I have learned here at Mason what it means to be loved by God and how to spread that love to others, something that is priceless.

What is your most memorable “Mason moment?”

One of my most memorable moments at Mason would have to be meeting so many new people at Luau, a big party thrown at the beginning of the year, by Catholic Patriots. There, I was able to meet so many new students and friends, and really got a sense of the community at Mason.

As you are reflecting on your time at Mason, what is one piece of advice you would give a student who is just starting off on their Mason journey?

I would advise new students to live fully alive in the present moment - to meet new people, smile and talk to people in class, pursue life-giving hobbies and friendships. I would advise them to really reflect on what is important to them and who they want to become, because this is a great opportunity to start to become who you were made to be.

What is your next step after graduation? What are your future plans?

After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in writing and/or translation work.
