What was the most impactful class you took in your major?

COMM 305: Foundations of Intercultural Communication. This class ignited my passion for learning and made me realize that I wanted to become a professor. It made me realize that there was so much more about our world than what meets the naked eye, and that there is always something to be learned and uncovered. Professor Lance Schmeidler was also an integral part of making this class as impactful as it was. His teaching style inspired me to the point where I became a TA for this same course in the following semester and further found my passion for peer mentoring and teaching.

What activities were you involved in during your time at Mason that impacted you?

I was apart of the e-board for GMU's Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). I was also a CHSS and COMM Ambassador and sincerely enjoyed my time in both roles. I also took part in an internship with the U.S. Department of State in Spring 2023, and thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from the experience. Being able to receive credits for my work during the semester was a true privilege and I am very fortunate to have had such an experience.

What is your most memorable “Mason moment?”

I don't think I have one moment in particular, so I would say hindsight is the most memorable part. I remember each stage of my MASON career and how I went from feeling lost and confused to confident and at-home within my major. Meeting one of my best friends in class is also a very important part of my experience here as well. Overall, there are a multitude of memories that I will carry with me and cherish as a MASON Alumni.

As you are reflecting on your time at Mason, what is one piece of advice you would give a student who is just starting off on their Mason journey?

Give yourself the grace to be confused and lost every once and a while. I changed my major twice, and even that is considered normal compared to the number of times that others change it. You're not expected to have everything figured out, so if you need help, go to your advisors, professors, or mentors and don't be shy to ask for help. I'm willing to bet that there is always at least one person that would be more than happy to help you out!

What is your next step after graduation? What are your future plans?

I plan to attend graduate school at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland to pursue an M.Phil in Intercultural Communication. After doing so, my goal is to become a professor in Communication studies and give back to students in similar positions as I was.
