How did you choose your degree program?

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved history. While I did not originally major in history when I first came to George Mason University, I eventually rediscovered my passion for the subject through the Mason Core. I specifically chose to concentrate on the Middle East and North Africa because of my Egyptian-American background.

How did your academic experiences in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences impact you?

My academic experience at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has been extremely beneficial. I grew immensely over the years and, to some extent, almost feel like a different person academically. I learned to think more critically about the past and became more refined in my love for history and the Middle East.

What accomplishment(s) during your time at Mason are you most proud of?

My grades are undoubtedly my most proud accomplishment from my time at Mason. I also took many Arabic and Korean language courses, and I feel very accomplished to have reached intermediate and advanced levels in both languages. I am grateful that Mason offers these less frequently studied languages.

Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career? Please give an example of this impact if possible.

All of my professors have been wonderful. Each one has had a meaningful impact on my Mason career.

What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?

Currently, I am considering several options to pursue after I graduate. One of my desires is to become certified in teaching English as a foreign language. After that, I am considering visiting the Middle East and beginning my career there.
