Scott A. Duane and Jami L. Duane-Brady Scholarship College of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Scott A. Duane and Jami L. Duane-Brady Scholarship was established in 2012. It is awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has overcome a challenge to get to or succeed in college. It is funded through the generosity of Jerry D. and Turla E. Duane in memory of their son Scott and in honor of their daughter Jamie.

Students interested in being considered for this scholarship should contact their undergraduate director. Departments and programs are invited to nominate one student using their own processes for seeking applicants and selecting finalists.

The scholarship recipient will be announced in July. Questions about the nomination process can be directed to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office.

Eligibility

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements.

• Be a declared major in the college
• Have earned at least 12 credits at George Mason by the end of spring semester
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
• Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the college during the fall semester

Application Materials

The application should contain the following materials.

• A current copy of a George Mason University transcript
• A resumé, including descriptions and dates of employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer activities, and any other academically relevant experiences
• A letter of recommendation from the Undergraduate Director (no more than two typed pages) addressing the student’s commitment to success in spite of unusual challenges
• An essay from the nominee (no more than two typed pages) describing how he/she overcame a challenge in life and explaining what motivates him/her to succeed

Selection Process

The application materials will be reviewed by a selection committee established by the dean of the college.
