The National Humanities Center (NHC) advances scholarship, education, and public engagement in the humanities. Through fellowships, teaching initiatives, and public programs, the Center deepens understanding of the human experience and the ideas that shape our world. The Center invites applications for academic-year or semester-long residential fellowships. Fellows enjoy private studies, in-house dining, and the exceptional service of NHC librarians to access and acquire all types of research materials while in residence. Mid-career, senior, and emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work from all areas of the humanities are encouraged to apply. To qualify, applicants must have received a PhD or equivalent scholarly credentials five years prior to applying. Scholars from all parts of the globe are welcome; stipends and travel expenses are provided.
The Center is now accepting applications for the 2027-28 academic year with a deadline of October 1, 2026. Fellowship applicants are asked to complete the online application and upload the following documents:
- 1,000-word project proposal
