CHSS honored with Excellence in Assessment Awards

Courtney Adams Wooten and Jamie Clark, fourth and fifth from right, respectively, receive Excellence in Assessment Awards from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (OIEP) recently recognized the anthropology program and English associate professor Courtney Adams Wooten at their annual Excellence in Assessment Awards.

The awards honor assessment efforts across the university, including academic, administrative, co-curricular, and Mason Core assessment. Awards were given to both specific assessment champions, as well as units who submitted exemplary assessment reports.

The Anthropology, BA, led by undergraduate program director Jamie Clark, was recognized with the Outstanding Academic Annual Assessment. The program demonstrated a holistic approach to assessing student learning that is grounded in continuous improvement. The program engaged multiple faculty members, integrated robust methods, and provided concrete action plans for improving both student learning and assessment processes.

Courtney Adams Wooten was one of just two individuals to receive Champions of Assessment awards. Adams Wooten, who serves as the associate chair of writing program administration and directs George Mason's composition program, was the recipient of the Champion of Mason Core Assessment. She is a highly value contributor to the Mason Core Assessment  process, and her expertise and commitment to student learning has been integral to  the continued growth of the Mason Core program.
