Host a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence in 2027-2028

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program is a unique Fulbright Scholar Program initiative that is driven by U.S. institutions of higher education curriculum and teaching needs. The Fulbright S-I-R Program provides J-visa sponsorship, travel, and a modest stipend to a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence.

Institutions host a scholar from outside of the United States for a semester or full academic year to teach courses, assist in curriculum development, guest lecture, develop study abroad/exchange partnerships and engage with the campus and the local community. S-I-Rs work across departments and curricula in a variety of ways to widely enhance or expand an existing international program, develop new world area studies programs, add an international dimension to existing coursework or provide an opportunity for American students to learn about a particular world region or country.

Institutional hosts may apply to host an S-I-R in a discipline that would benefit from a comparative or international perspective.  Hosts have the option to propose a specific scholar or the Institute for International Education (IIE) can work with Fulbright Commissions or U.S. Embassies abroad to recruit Scholar-in-Residence candidates. The overall deadline to apply for the 2027-2028 academic year will be June 1, 2026, at 5:00PM EST.

In advance of the application launch, institutions are invited to express their interest in the program and sign up for an individual advising session via this survey.
