Workplace appreciation training

CHSS HR is pleased to offer a workplace appreciation training to all CHSS faculty and staff on October 28 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Gallup data reveals that “employees who receive recognition on the job are 45% less likely to leave their jobs”, and “the most effective recognition is honest, authentic and individualized to how each employee wants to be recognized.” Supervisors and team members are encouraged to identify each other's preferred appreciation languages and select the recognition method that will best be received. This training will aid in that discovery process.

Based on the book The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, this training aims to help George Mason faculty and staff, including supervisors and non-supervisors, discover strategies for assessment and practical application of authentic and genuine workplace  appreciation. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in conversation surrounding the five languages, reflect on personal preferences for receiving appreciation, and assess ways of showing appreciation while determining impactful means of appreciating colleagues.

As explained in The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Gary Chapman and Paul White, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, and tangible gifts are all ways in which we can offer authentic and individualized appreciation for a colleague. Supervisors and team members are encouraged to identify each other's preferred appreciation languages and select the recognition method that will best be received.
