Intellectual Life Committee: Asynchronous Faculty Public Writing Series

For faculty interested in writing for “public” venues (popular, journalistic, and/or non-academic publications with broad readership), the CHSS Intellectual Life Committee has designed an asynchronous workspace where faculty authors might get feedback on drafts in-progress and build a supportive, yet rigorous, circle of readers, while going at their own pace.

The workspace also includes a two-part video lecture by Dr. Zachary Michael Jack, author of The Art of Public Writing (Parlor Press 2022), as well as readings and resources about the challenges and strategies of taking scholarship public.  Learn about common genres, such as Op-Eds/guest opinion essays, first-person commentaries, and longform journalism, as well as pitching and submission strategies.

Join us to set goals, build an action plan, share expertise, and workshop drafts. Meet colleagues from across the college, flex your writing muscles, and work toward publishing in your public venue of choice.

Hosted by the CHSS Intellectual Life Committee

Facilitators: Michelle LaFrance, English/Writing and Rhetoric and Rashmi Sadana, Sociology and Anthropology
