Lead time for Dean’s signature

Lead time for Dean’s signature

Any grant, sponsored research or fellowship proposal that includes items that need the College Dean’s signature (such as letters of support for external grant proposals, internal grant cover pages, or limited nominations for prestigious awards) must be submitted well in advance of proposal deadlines to allow adequate time for the College to review and sign off on materials. Please note that the designated signature authority for sponsored research proposals submitted by George Mason University is not the College Dean.

  1. Letters of Support and/or Letters of Commitment – If an external funding proposal requires a letter of support or commitment from the College, the proposal writer must submit a draft version of the letter to their assigned CHSS Pre-Award Research Administrator (RA) no later than 7 business days before the CHSS proposal submission due date, along with any explanatory materials such as the proposal draft, budget, etc. The Pre-Award RA will remind applicants of the draft letter requirement during the proposal planning review meeting.
  2. Internal grant proposals (e.g., funded by Mason, or funded by 4-VA) – If an internal grant proposal requires a College signature, the proposal writer must submit a copy of the draft proposal, the guidelines, and the signature page no later than 7 business days before Mason’s proposal submission deadline by email to rpershad@gmu.edu.
  3. Nominations for external fellowships or awards – In cases where an institutional nomination is put forth by the College, internal deadlines and details about the nomination process will be communicated by the Associate Dean for Research. Examples include nominations for NEH Summer Stipends and other limited university nominations for prestigious fellowships, such as from the Carnegie Foundation.
