Have questions about seeking external funding?

Perhaps you've been thinking about submitting a proposal for external funding (grants, contracts, fellowships, etc.), and have questions about the best way to proceed.  As CHSS builds it's very own Pre-Award Research Administration (RA) team, rest assured that we are here to guide you throughout proposal development and submission, while making sure your proposal follows university and college policies.

One of the first considerations is to recognize that the applicant for external funding is the university (with the exception of some limited fellowship competitions), and only those authorized to submit proposals on behalf of the university may do so.  Submissions from individual faculty or staff that haven't gone through official channels may be declined or significantly delayed at the award acceptance stage.

The CHSS Pre-Award RA team should be contacted as soon as you have an external funding opportunity or are considering submitting an application for external funding.  They are able to interface with the Office of Sponsored Programs, develop budgets, talk you through proposal guidelines and requirements, set up a timeline for submission, and make sure you are in good shape to proceed.  Doing that important work at the time of proposal submission is required, and carries the additional benefit of streamlining the acceptance and start-up of awards made possible by external funding.
