CHSS "pre-award" research administration updates

The CHSS dean’s office is pleased to welcome two new team members to the pre-award research administration team.

Gina Han joined CHSS on July 10 as a pre-award research administrator. She comes to us from the Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) where she assisted SBDC directors and finance teams throughout the commonwealth with government grants, proposals, and submissions. As part of CHSS, Gina will be working with the faculty to assist in all aspects of grant proposal submissions. Gina is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and has a degree in economics and environmental science. She is looking forward to supporting the faculty with grant proposal submissions and learning more about the research they do.

Loralin Welch joined CHSS on July 25 as a pre-award research administrator. She comes to CHSS from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she supported the Department of Internal Medicine in both pre- and post-award activities for grants, contracts and clinical trials. Prior to working at VCU, Loralin worked at James Madison University (JMU) where she performed pre-award duties such as proposal development, creating compliant budgets, submitting federal and non-federal proposals for JMU’s central Office of Sponsored Programs. Loralin comes to CHSS with over five years experience in research administration. She enjoys working with new faculty and staying up to date on current topics in research administration and is excited to be a part of the CHSS and Mason family.

Research Administration Management Portal (RAMP) Updates

The CHSS pre-award research administration team is partnering with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to begin the transition phase of moving pre-award research administration services from OSP to the college. This process will take several months as we train our new staff and put processes in place, so we appreciate your patience. For now, if you would like proposal assistance your initial communication should still be with OSP. We will keep you informed as we transition services. For those interested in learning more about RAMP, please see: https://ramp.gmu.edu/training .

Message from OSP

If you are planning to submit a resubmission, competitive renewal, or continuous supplement application- please note the process to request assistance from OSP is different from starting a new funding proposal in RAMP. In these cases, please don’t create a new funding proposal but contact OSP so they can guide you through the process.

If you have you have additional questions regarding pre-award and proposal submissions, please reach out to Rashmi Pershad, associate director of pre-award research administration, directly or through the new pre-award email: CHSSPreA@gmu.edu.
