2022 Outstanding Achievement Award winners in CHSS

Four faculty and staff members from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will receive outstanding achievement Awards during the awards ceremony on April 7. The awards celebrate the hard work, dedication, and achievements of the people who make up Mason’s community.

Ric Chollar, an adjunct faculty member in the Women and Gender Studies program and the School for Integrative Studies, will receive the Adjunct Faculty Service Award, which celebrates the crucial role that adjunct faculty plays at Mason. The award recognizes a member of the adjunct faculty who displays exceptional commitment and service to the university, its mission, and its students. Chollar, a licensed social worker, serves as the associate director of Mason’s LGBTQ+ Resources Center.

Theodore C. Dumas, associate professor, Department of Psychology, will receive the Sustainability Hero Award, which recognizes the contributions of faculty or staff members whose primary job is not sustainability, but who have gone the extra mile to seek creative solutions to promote healthy, sustainable living, or who have reduced Mason’s environmental impacts.

Irene Mills, the associate director of budget in the CHSS Dean's Office, will receive the outstanding supervisor award. The recipient of this award must promote collegiality, be receptive to employee ideas and engage them in the department and/or university goals, promote and model a positive work-life balance, fairly acknowledge exemplary performance, encourage professional growth of classified or non-student wage employees, support the work of classified and non-student wage earners, support innovation in the department, model leadership skills, and promote diversity and inclusion.

Zachary Schrag, history professor and director of the Department of History’s MA program, will receive the Rick Holt Active Transportation Advocate Award. This award, named for “the Mason bike dude,” who was a trainer in Human Resources and Payroll – and avid bike commuter – for 14 years. The award recognizes a Mason faculty or staff member who is committed to utilizing, promoting, and advocating for the use of active transportation as part of their daily commute life.

Congratulations to all awardees! The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 7, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in Dewberry Hall, and will be livestreamed over Zoom.
