Hypothesis social annotation tool now available

Hypothesis, a social annotation tool that enables students and instructors to collaboratively annotate web pages and PDFs online, is now available in Blackboard for all CHSS faculty.

With Hypothesis, students and instructors can generate an active discussion about a text by placing comments, tags, and multimedia in the margins. Blackboard integration makes it easy to create Hypothesis assignments and grade student work.

Faculty can learn more about the Hypothesis tool through several workshops offered through CHSS in January:

January 19, 2022 from 12:30 – 1:30 pmActivating Social Annotation in Blackboard. This workshop is best for faculty new to Hypothesis or those who want a refresher about how to create and grade annotation assignments.

January 21, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 pmCollaborative Workshop. This workshop is best for faculty who have already used Hypothesis and are looking for strategies for using this tool in groups. Examples of collaborative annotation activities from different disciplines will also be covered.

For a general overview of Hypothesis, faculty can also sign up for the Hypothesis partner workshop, “Activating Annotation in Blackboard” workshop on January 19, 2022.

Faculty with specific questions about Hypothesis in Blackboard are welcome to contact Jessie Matthews <jmatthe2@gmu.edu> in the English Department.
