CHSS faculty and staff recognized at University Day Service Awards
Lester Arnold, Mason's vice president for Human Resources and Payroll, congratulates long-serving Patriots.

On November 2-3, 2021, George Mason University recognized its employees with work anniversaries of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 years. The Green and Gold University Service Day Awards, hosted by Lester Arnold, vice president, Human Resources and Payroll, salute the commitment of these employees to Mason.

Unlike the 2020 observation that was held virtually, this year’s events featured a luncheon on the Fairfax Campus, hosted by President Gregory Washington, who hailed the attendees’ dedication. “That is a big deal,” he said. “And that’s a real big deal today.”

Commenting on the extraordinary nature of the past twelve months, Washington touted many of Mason’s successes: among the lowest COVID transmission rate among students of any large university in Mason’s region, the graduation of Mason’s largest and most diverse class in history, and the growth of Mason’s enrollment. “That’s in large part due to the individuals in this room,” he emphasized.

“Last month, 4.3 million Americans walked off the job,” he continued. “You are all still here, you are still with us…That speaks to a commitment to our students, that speaks to a commitment to our institution, and I want you to know that it is appreciated.”

Brad Edwards, assistant vice predisent and athletic director, Paul Allvin, vice president and chief brand officer, and Rose Pascarell, vice president, University Life, each took a turn to recognize the attendees gathered in Dewberry Hall.

Rick Davis, dean, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Linda Monson, director of the Music Program, reprised their 2020 video performance of “Pandemic University.” Noting that Davis and Monson traditionally offer a musical element to the University Day celebrations, Vice President Arnold introduced the encore presentation “to serve as a reminder of where we were a year ago and the fact that we’re in this room together.”

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to present the sixty-five staff and faculty members who were recognized for their dedication to the university:
