Thank-a-Teacher? Thank you, CHSS!

In spring 2021, the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning invited Mason students to identify faculty members, past or present, who had made a difference in their lives. The Thank-a-Teacher program compiled the responses and in early September, the faculty who were identified by students received a letter of recognition via email from Provost Ginsberg, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Development Kim Eby, and Director for Teaching Excellence at the Stearns Center, Shelley Reid. Each letter included the personal notes of thanks from the students and an additional note of gratitude from the Stearns Center for the faculty’s hard work and dedication.

In a note to Dean Ann Ardis last week, the Stearns Center emphasized that it is the quality -- not the number -- of the messages that counts. However, they also noted that "299 Mason faculty received these letters and that the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Honors College and School of Integrative Studies, received ~38% of all the letters that went out."

CHSS has traditionally taken very seriously our commitment to our students' success and the impact that we have on our community of learners; it is gratifying when our students let us know that we are doing just that. Thank you!
