Informal Virtual Coffee Offers Research Conversation, Support

CHSS Research Virtual Coffees

On Friday, October 23, the CHSS Dean’s Office held a virtual Research Coffee as “a place of solace and escape,” where faculty at varying stages of academic careers and experience could discuss their research and scholarship: their own work as well as challenges in pursuing research goals in the current environment. The event was hosted by Brooke Gowl, associate director of research development; Marguerite Rippy, associate dean of graduate academic affairs; Jaime Lester, associate dean of faculty affairs and strategic initiatives; and Michele Schwietz, associate dean for research.

Each of the twelve participants in attendance introduced themselves and outlined their research and scholarly interests. Following introductions, Brooke - who came to the university in January 2020 - led the discussion, describing how CHSS Research is providing and developing resources to help them obtain funding for their research, scholarship and creative works. When Brooke asked if participants would like to attend informal, virtual Research Coffees monthly, she received an overwhelmingly positive response.

In response to feedback from the event’s inaugural participants and the CHSS Faculty Research and Scholarship Needs Survey from October, Brooke is planning monthly Research Coffees organized around various topics and themes. Be on the lookout for announcements for upcoming Coffees.
