Keep it Up, Do Your Part, Wear a Mask

Mason has received a great deal of positive press this fall for its hard work in limiting the number of new COVID-19 infections on campus. At the October 1 Board of Visitors meeting, Rector James W. “Jimmy” Hazel praised the university’s successful return to campus, its safety efforts, and the dedication shown by Mason students.

President Gregory Washington, too, has praised the efforts of Mason’s community of faculty, staff, and students in managing the virus, noting that “these extraordinary numbers are cause for encouragement—not to let up on our efforts to keep COVID-19 away, but to stay the course” (emphasis in original).

College faculty and staff are reminded that all of our cooperation is needed to continue to keep our community safe. Please continue to wear your masks inside of classroom buildings, even in hallways. It is not only an effective method of slowing the transmission of the virus, but is required by University Policy.

Most importantly, when you wear a mask, you are communicating to your fellow Mason community members that you care about them and their health. We are going through this challenging time together, and we need to work together to emerge from it healthy and strong.
