As their names rang through the Mason Hall atrium, 26 students walked past the podium, received their certificates, and shook the hand of the dean, Jack Censer. These students, both undergraduates and graduates in the college, were recognized at the 2011 Celebration of Scholarship.

The Celebration of Scholarship took place on Monday, Oct. 24. In this annual event, the college honors recipients of the Award for Scholarship and winners of the Dean’s Challenge. The Dean's Challenge recognizes students who go beyond what is required to be academically successfully. They challenge themselves and still excel academically. At this event, the college also honors high-achieving freshmen.

The recipients of the student awards receive a stipend to help with their educational expenses.

Jamie Cooper, associate dean of undergraduate academic affairs in the college, both gave remarks, and then announced the winners, who were accompanied by their guests. The award ceremony was followed by a reception.

“This is one of the times we get to bring students together to acknowledge their achievements,” Cooper said. “We are inviting the students, parents and faculty who nominated the winners. We really want the community to know all the great things our students are doing.”
