The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to honor Nicole Geller, BS Economics ’86, with its Distinguished Alumni Award for 2013. Geller was formally recognized at the George Mason University Celebration of Distinction in April.
As a student, Geller knew she wanted to study economics or business because of her interest in consumer purchasing decisions and motivators. She found that she particularly enjoyed courses that required creative and analytical thinking, like Math Logic, which studied classic word problems and challenged her to reason outside conventional methods to arrive at a conclusion.
While still an undergraduate, Geller worked part time at a firm that introduced her to government contracting, which she describes as a complex sector with its own set of rules. Learning these guidelines and maneuvering through the industry greatly appealed to her. Following graduation, Geller moved to larger firms and, after accumulating an arsenal of knowledge and experience, she opened her own firm, Government Contract Solutions (GCS). GCS specializes in professional services and solutions for the federal government and industry clients.
Geller is an active member of the college’s advisory board, and mentors Mason students studying the humanities and social sciences. She contributes to the community as well, speaking at local and national events on issues related to entrepreneurship and the federal contracting industry. Her evolution from student to professional to community leader demonstrates the strong foundation of a humanities and social sciences education at Mason. The college is proud to celebrate Nicole Geller’s accomplishments through this award; the success of its alumni reflects brightly on its own identity.
