How did you choose your degree program?

I studied literature and earned a BA in English earlier in my life. I then worked doing resource and program development for NGOs in Europe and the US, as well as freelance writing. I was increasingly drawn to art history. I decided to dip my feet into the art history field by getting a Certificate in World Art History from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. That is where I first encountered some wonderful George Mason University art history professors. Studying art history at GMU was the next logical step. I am now finishing my BA in art history and have been accepted into the BAM program for art history here at GMU. I look forward to continuing my art history journey here at GMU CHSS.

How did your academic experiences in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences impact you?

My current studies of art history not only keep expanding my mind and critical thinking skills, but also fuel my creative work through stimulating and fascinating explorations and revelations. I think art history is one of those extraordinary fields of study that can stand on its own because it is so complex and integrated, but it also artfully blends with and infuses other areas of study with invaluable perspective and insight. Being a part of CHSS at GMU has been an invigorating academic experience and a fulfilling personal journey.

What accomplishment(s) during your time at Mason are you most proud of?

It has been affirming to receive recognition for my academic work here at Mason, but I am most grateful for how all my wonderful professors have expanded my knowledge, stimulated my curiosity, and encouraged my art history journey. I have especially been impressed by professors who champion their students, make an effort to commend their students' work, and promote projects worthy of wider attention.

Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career?

All the professors I have had the honor to learn from have been exceptional! I would like to especially thank Dr. Angela Ho who was my academic advisor and my first direct human contact with GMU and the Art History Department. She has expertly guided my studies here and has done so with much care and kindness.

What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?

Since I am a part of the BAM program, I will be continuing my art history studies in the MA program here at GMU. I am also working on several personal writing and creative projects. My current studies of art history not only keep expanding my mind and critical thinking skills, but also fuel my creative work through stimulating and fascinating explorations and revelations. My plan is to keep learning and pass on what I am learning to others – through my writing, interactive installations, and any other new ways that might open up.
