Where are you from?

Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

What was your undergraduate major, and from which university did you graduate?

History with a minor in International Relations from Bellevue University.

What are some causes/ issues you care about? Why?

Strengthening US foreign policy, strategy and partnerships, particularly in Asia Pacific.

What work/intern/volunteer experience do you have and how has it prepared you for your studies?

Of my eleven years of service in the Air Force, five years were spent in the Indo-Pacific region where I was fortunate to have been able to participate in negotiations with the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force, Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau and Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism counterparts. This experience working with other foreign civilian and military counterparts was fantastic, and it left me yearning for more knowledge and opportunities to develop and negotiate in the foreign policy arena.

What aspects of Mason made you choose to study here?

Two of my colleagues are Mason alumni and both are exemplary diplomats and international experts.

What do you hope to accomplish while at Mason?

My personal goal is to develop both skills and knowledge to begin a career in International Affairs.

What are your hobbies?

Snowboarding, hiking, working out, biking and electric boarding.

What are you most looking forward to while living in the DC area?

Being able to meet and learn from other professionals dedicated to public service.

What is your favorite thing about being a student?

Sharing ideas with other students who are interested increasing their understanding of the world and achieving their personal goals.

Which languages do you speak?

I am currently learning Japanese.

What was the last book you read? Do you recommend it? (Why/why not)

Unbroken by ‎Laura Hillenbrand. I would definitely recommend reading this book. It is a reminder of the tremendous sacrifices made by our World War II veterans.
