What made you interested in studying economics?

Taking Professor Don Boudreaux’ Economics 103 course as a GMU freshman in 2011. Professor Boudreaux' course introduced me to the economic way of thinking. He made the course exciting by applying economic principles to topics ranging from international trade to parenting.

What have you enjoyed about studying economics at Mason?

The economics professors are excited about their work and eager to engage with students. Students are encouraged to use the economic lens to answer creative questions.

What kinds of opportunities have been available to you while being at Mason?

I’ve been lucky enough to have two fellowships (Joseph Schumpeter as an undergrad and MA as a grad). Both the Joseph Schumpeter and MA Fellowships are sponsored through the Mercatus Center. The Schumpeter Fellowship is for undergraduates and the MA Fellowship is for master's in economics students. They provided the opportunity to dive deeper into classic economic texts, conduct economic and policy research, and engage with faculty on a personal level. The fellowships also provided generous funding.

What are your career goals after graduation?

I’d like to do research for a financial institution.

How do you think your degree will prepare you for your career goals?

My degree has taught me to think creatively and logically. I think this leads to improved decision making.
