Basic Course

Dr. Andrew Rudd teaches in the Basic Course and is a Faculty Mentor for graduate teaching assistants who also teach COMM 101. He is a term assistant professor in the Department of Communication at George Mason University.

He earned a B.A. in Communication Arts from Cedarville College in Ohio. His M.A. in Communication and Writing was completed at Andrews University in Michigan. He earned his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.

Andrew has taught courses like COMM 101 for three decades at two small midwestern Universities and one larger public school - Bowling Green State University. He has also taught courses focused on persuasion, culture, media and film. Before coming to George Mason University, he served as Department Chair, Director of General Education, Chair of Faculty Development Committee.

As a filmmaker he’s made award winning short films that have played at dozens of film festivals around the world. He is a screenwriter, director and producer. He founded a 20-year-running film festival to showcase student work, developed a community project creating and curating local oral histories, he served as a Film Festival Juror, Programmer and Director at various film festivals.

He is currently investigating resistance in the classroom related to cohort learning and "hyperbonding."
