Welcome to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at George Mason University. In our college, you will find the disciplines that form the backbone of a traditional university education as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs. From history to bioethics, foreign languages to criminology, communication to global affairs, and more, our departments and programs are geared towards understanding the human world, and securing for our students and our communities a productive and satisfying future.
We are passionate about what we do. Our goal is to provide a small, liberal arts college experience within the structure of a large public university. For the students who major in our programs, and for those who take CHSS courses as elements of a major in another school at Mason, the college is committed to their success, with faculty members integrating the intellectual with the practical and preparing students for professional and civic life. Through academic advising and a strong and ever-growing alumni network, we support our students throughout their scholarly journey and beyond.
We hope that you will discover the breadth and depth of what we have to offer. We also hope that you will take the time to visit Mason and learn more about how we can contribute to your success.
