Dean Search Update

In August, 2017, Provost David Wu announced that College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Deborah Boehm-Davis would be moving from the university after more than 30 years of service and returning to a position in private industry.

The university has assembled a committee of faculty, staff, and administrators, chaired by College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean Rick Davis, to conduct a national search for Dean Boehm-Davis’s successor. The committee will be assisted in this work by Isaacson, Miller, an executive search firm with offices in Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

Isaacson, Miller has set up a website through which potential candidates may apply or be nominated; please visit to learn more.

On November 6-7, 2017, the search team hosted an open forum for all members of the college community to gather input to be used to formulate a comprehensive position description and posting. The resulting position profile offers a picture of the university, the college, the dean's role, and the qualities and characteristics of a successful candidate.

The search committee and search firm continue to accept nominations and applications, working to build a broadly representative pool of candidates.
