China’s rapid development directly impacts the lives of just about everyone in the U. S. CHINA Town Hall is a national conversation on China involving more than eighty communities across the United States and is intended to provide Americans the opportunity to learn about and explore critical issues of concern with leading China experts.

The evening will begin with a reception and refreshments (hors d’oeuvre) at 5:15 p.m. The program itself will begin at 5:50 p.m. with opening remarks and a live national webcast featuring a conversation with The Honorable Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State (2005-09) and national security advisor (2001-05), moderated by Mr. Stephen A. Orlins, President of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

The national webcast will be followed by an on-site discussion with special Mason guest Mr. Frank Jannuzi, President and CEO of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation and former Deputy Executive Director at Amnesty International, USA. In a presentation entitled “Six Dragons Imperiling the Rise of China,” Mr. Jannuzi will share his thoughts on the enormous challenges confronting China despite its apparent successes and will field any questions that members of the local audience might have.

This event is free and open to students, faculty and the general public.
