Duane Scholarship: Call for Nominations

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks nominations for the Duane Scholarship. This scholarship has been established to acknowledge an undergraduate student who has overcome a challenge to get to or succeed in college.

Submission Address

Students will need to apply through Financial Aid.


Students must meet the following eligibility requirements.

  • Have earned at least 12 credits at George Mason by the end of the spring semester
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the college during the previous fall semester

Application Materials

The application should contain the following materials.

  • A current copy of a George Mason University transcript
  • A resumé, including descriptions and dates of employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer activities, and any other academically relevant experiences
  • A letter of recommendation from the Undergraduate Director (no more than three typed pages) addressing the student’s commitment to success in spite of unusual challenges
  • An essay from the nominee (no more than three typed pages) describing how he/she overcame a challenge in life and explaining what motivates him/her to succeed

Selection Process

The application materials will be reviewed by a selection committee established by the dean of the college.
