<h4>Taking the First Step</h4> <p>Upon accepting an offer of admission, newly admitted students should contact their <a href="../graduatedirectors">Graduate Program Director</a> to discuss course registration and plan of study. Information about enrollment procedures, registration deadlines and course offerings is available through the <a href="http://registrar.gmu.edu/students/registration/patriotweb.html">Registrar's Office Website</a>.</p> <p>Please note that a&nbsp;one time $60 New Graduate Student Fee (nonrefundable)&nbsp;is assessed to all newly admitted graduate students at the time of registration regardless of orientation attendance or enrollment status.</p> <h4>Accessing University Services</h4> <p>In order to access university services and resources, including obtaining a <a id="http://www.gmu.edu/univserv/allunivcard/photoid/" href="http://www.gmu.edu/univserv/allunivcard/photoid/">Mason Photo ID</a> and <a href="http://www.gmu.edu/univserv/parking/permits.html">parking permit</a>, students must first enroll in coursework through <a href="http://patriotweb.gmu.edu/">PatriotWeb</a>.&nbsp; A list of university offices and services is available on the college's&nbsp;<a href="../graduateresources">graduate resources website</a>.</p> <h4>Getting Oriented</h4> <p>Each August the College of Humanities and Social Sciences sponsors a <a href="../gradorientation">Graduate Student Orientation</a> for all newly admitted students. Information about the event is sent out with the letter of admission; a formal invitation is also sent to admitted students&nbsp;in&nbsp;July.</p> <p>Students should update their address and other contract info in <a href="http://patriotweb.gmu.edu/">PatriotWeb</a> to insure they receive all relevant information from the college and university.</p> <h4>Staying Connected</h4> <p>After registration, all newly admitted students should immediately activate their <a href="https://mail.gmu.edu/">George Mason e-mail account</a>. All e-mail correspondence from the college and university will be sent to the student's official George Mason e-mail account. <br /> <br /> Students should also consider signing up for <a href="http://alert.gmu.edu/">MasonAlert</a>, a service provided by the university to keep students informed of emergency information for all George Mason campuses and the surrounding area.
