Welcome to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at George Mason University. We are the largest college at Mason, with a faculty that is dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and service. CHSS is where you will find the disciplines that form the backbone of traditional university education as well as newer, interdisciplinary programs. From philosophy to neuroscience, from modern and classical languages to criminology, law and society, our departments and programs are geared towards equipping our students for a productive and satisfying future.
Every undergraduate student at George Mason takes classes within the college, regardless of his or her major. Our goal is to provide a small college, liberal arts experience within the structure of a large public university. The college is committed to its students’ success, with faculty members integrating the intellectual with the practical and preparing students for professional and civic life. Through academic advising and a strong and ever-growing alumni network, we support you throughout your scholarly journey and beyond.
We hope that you will discover the breadth and depth of what we have to offer. We also hope that you will take the time to visit Mason and learn more about how we can contribute to your success.
