This course provides students preparation for active participation in threat assessment and management processes in government, education, and industry settings. Actual cases are studied to identify missed opportunities for intervention, prevention and management. Media, Internet, research, and other published writings inform actual fact pattern analysis. Scheduled active expert threat assessors include current and former agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the United States Secret Service, along with a Virginia Tech family member and a survivor from the campus shooting who share their experiences and expertise in the current state of the threat assessment process.
