Dean's Note - September 2009

The summer months have passed quickly, and I am looking forward to another school year beginning. One of my top priorities this fall is to communicate more often with you and your fellow alumni. Today, I'd like to tell you about a few of the terrific events coming up that I hope you will be able to attend.

Celebration of Scholarship

Each year, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Science host a gala reception to recognize Dean’s Challenge Scholarship winners--funded by our generous donors--and the Faculty Scholar of the Year. This year, our College honors Tyler Cowen of the Department of Economics. This event is free and open to the public.

African and African American Studies Conference: "African Identities in the Age of Obama"

October 8-10, 2009

The focus of this multidisciplinary forum is the critical, continued examination of African identities. It is hosted by the African and African American Studies program.

Moments of Truth Lecture

The speaker for the 2009 Moments of Truth program is Mr. Harry Markopolos, a former securities industry executive who rose to prominence as an early and unheeded whistleblower of the $50 billion securities fraud committed by Bernie Madoff.
