Graduate Certificates in PIA
The Department of Public and International Affairs offers four, 15-credit graduate certificates. Applications for admission are made through the Office of Graduate Admissions. Admission requirements are the same as those of the MPA Program. Students who wish to continue their studies may apply certificate credits toward the MPA degree, pending admission to the MPA program and subject to university policies.
To receive a certificate, students must complete five courses (15 credits).
Certificate Requirements
- Certificate in Administration of Justice:
- Three required courses (9 credits)
- PUAD 502 Administration in Public and Nonprofit Organizations
- JLPC 509 Justice Organizations and Processes
- JLPC 691 Justice Program Planning and Implementation
- Two JLPS electives (6 credits)
- Three required courses (9 credits)
- Certificate in Association Management:
- Three required courses (9 credits)
- PUAD 659 Nonprofit Law, Governance, and Ethics
- PUAD 664 Nonprofit Financial Management
- PUAD 657 Association Management
- Two electives (6 credits) in the nonprofit area, chosen from PUAD 620, 640, 654, 655, 720; and 794
- Three required courses (9 credits)
- Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security:
- Three required courses (9 credits)
- PUAD 630 Emergency Planning and Preparedness
- PUAD 631 Disaster Response Operations and Recovery
- PUAD 632 Homeland Security: Terrorism, Threat and Vulnerability Analysis
- PUAD 630 Emergency Planning and Preparedness
